The MLS Is Back: 26 Teams Come To Orlando For World-Cup Style Tournament
Major League Soccer returns July 8 for a unique tournament, and it's all happening in Orlando!
Who’s back? Major League Soccer is back with an all-new World-Cup style tournament, the MLS is Back Tournament! 26 clubs will compete at ESPN’s Wide World of Sports Complex. The opening match will see both Florida clubs face off: hosts Orlando City SC vs. Inter Miami CF. For the rest of the match-ups, a draw will determine the composition of all six groups.
Major League Soccer has a long history with the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. The league held its 1998 preseason at the complex, and hosted events for the 1998 and 2019 MLS All-Star Games.
“Sports have the power to unify and inspire, particularly during challenging times,” said Josh D’Amaro, chairman, Disney Parks, Experiences and Products. “And we’re looking forward to bringing this exciting sport back to millions of fans, while prioritizing the health and well-being of the players, coaches and support staff as well as our cast members.”
The Prize
The 26 lucky clubs will compete for regular season points, a Concacaf Champions League berth and $1.1 million prize.
